Job Description:

Tired of only having responsibility for a niche area of a project? Looking for a full scope Project Manager role incorporating everything from design to construction? Confident to work within a performance-benefited business?

Nation Recruit is currently recruiting for a Project Manager with experience of highways, renewables and/or infrastructure on behalf on Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK. This is a nationwide search with specific requirements in East Anglia, the South (particularly Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire), North Wales and the Highlands.  

Jones Bros is one of the UK's leading civil engineering contractors with a wealth of expertise in developing highways, building infrastructure, constructing waste management facilities, land remediation, devising coastal and flood protection, road construction and managing complex logistics for renewable energy.

Known for an innovative approach to client delivery, Jones Bros is looking for individuals who can think outside the norm. With a headquarters in North Wales and several regional offices, the company is growing across the UK. It is currently looking to appoint personnel in several regions.

The Project Manager will:

  • Take full ownership of the delivery of the project from design to build; ensuring the project is delivered safely, on time and to budget.

  • Manage the design interface for the project.

  • Plan, monitor and review the progress of contracts throughout the project’s lifespan and ensure compliance with project’s budgets and programme.

  • Be present on-site on a daily basis; providing a liaison point for clients and on-site workers.

  • A strong customer focus is essential: demonstrate and live to the value that the customer comes first.

  • Strong management of the site team to ensure adequate plant, labour and subcontract resources are available in a timely manner to comply with timescales

  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and ensure the accurate construction of the works in accordance with client requirements

  • Comply with procedures to ensure finance requirements are met externally and internally on a timely basis ie payment to suppliers and the submission of weekly reports.

  • Ensure company procedures and systems on quality, health & safety and environmental issues are implemented and complied with on their company site

  • Actively promote the training and provide guidance to subordinate staff and operatives in order to fully develop their construction competencies


 
Essential skills:

  • Experience of project management from design to build within the civil engineering sector; ideally projects within highways and infrastructure.

  • Demonstration of strong management experience internally and management of external networks

  • Thorough awareness of NEC and FIDIC contracts

  • Programming skills using CS Project or equivalent

Jones Bros is a highly autonomous environment to work within and it is seeking individuals who can work with an ethos that is non-confrontational, positive and with a can-do approach. Working within the role, you will need to do the ‘hands-on’ as well as the high level responsibilities.

In order to be successful in the role you will need to be educated to degree level or equivalent (eg HND), ideally within civil engineering. Additionally, you will be professionally qualified and accredited to ICE. Project management experience, demonstrating full project responsibility, is essential.

  • Liaise with and maintain existing client relationships with the appropriate equivalent level client representative

  • Plan, monitor and review the progress of contracts throughout the project’s lifespan and ensure compliance with project’s budgets and programme

  • Ensure the accurate setting out and surveying of all aspects of the works

  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and ensure the accurate construction of the works in accordance with client requirements

  • Provide sufficient and accurate information to the site Works Manager and foremen to ensure timely construction of the works

  • Participate in the site management team and ensure adequate plant, labour and subcontract and material resources are available to comply with timescales

  • Aid smooth running of financial matters internally and externally, including supplier payments as well as highlighting risks to the project

  • Actively resolve contractual issues with both clients and suppliers to ensure maintenance of positive company image

  • Prepare quality, environmental and health and safety construction plans in timely manner


Essential skills:

  • Previous on-site engineering experience within civils projects

  • Strong working knowledge of various surveying software

  • Adaptable and versatile approach to work with willingness to turn their hands to anything involved in the project

  • Strong understanding of IT systems

  • Demonstration of financial understanding of the cost to value (CVR) of running projects

  • Self motivated character

Jones Bros is a highly autonomous environment to work within and it is seeking individuals who can work with an ethos that is non-confrontational, positive and with a can-do approach. Working within the role, you will need to do the ‘hands-on’ as well as the high level responsibilities.

This role will suit someone who is currently training to become ICE accredited. You will need to be educated to degree level or equivalent (eg HND), ideally within civil engineering. Engineering experience is essential, ideally within landfill and waste management.
