Jones Bros works on multi-million pound waste management and remediation projects across the UK.
(subheading) Landfill cell lining works/access road
We undertook a £1.8m contract for Biffa Waste Services Ltd in Houghton le Spring, Co Durham. It involved three main works:
Construction of a new access road within the landfill site.
Reprofiling of a 45m vertical height quarry face to produce a rock profile suitable for lining. Restricted width at the top of the rock face meant that a working platform had to be constructed out of excavated material, and moved as works progressed along the length of the quarry face. Some 400,000 tonnes of rock required excavating in order to extract 100,000 tonnes of rock for the reprofiling.
Lining of the rock face involved a steepwall design consisting of clay/geogrid/polystyrene tipform units/welded geomembrane liner & a geocomposite protection/gas venting layer.
