Two new contracts for Jones Bros

Civil engineering contractor Jones Bros has secured two major contracts. The £34.4m Porthmadog bypass scheme will see Jones Bros partner with Balfour Beatty to construct a new section of the A487 in Gwynedd.

Work is expected to take two years with up to 100 people working on site. In nearby Tywyn, Jones Bros are starting work on a £6m sea defence project. Around 62,000 tonnes of rock will be imported to the area to strengthen the resort’s coastal defences.

Jones Bros managing director Huw Jones said: “The company is looking ahead confidently in 2010. Both of these projects are in sectors where we have a great deal of experience and in-house expertise.”

While both of these projects are relatively local to the North Wales-based firm, the company is involved in around 20 projects across the UK. It recently opened its first office in Scotland, where it is currently installing balance of plant for wind farms at Crystal Rig, nr Edinburgh, and Tullo, Aberdeenshire.

Huw Jones said: “We see renewables as an important part of Jones Bros’ future and Scotland offers a lot of potential in that sector. Having a physical presence north of the border gives us a strong tendering base for future projects.”
