More than half of the Tywyn Coastal Defence scheme is now complete. Throughout the work so far we’ve had a fantastic level of interest and support from the local community.

Our Visitor Information Point has been busy day and night, especially during the deliveries of rock by sea.

The public can also obtain updated news about the project via an A3 bi-lingual leaflet which is now available from the visitor centre at Warwick Place, Tywyn.

In addition, we are having a film of the project made by professional film makers. Following requests from local people, copies will be available to the public, with the proceeds going to charity. Further information on its availability will be posted in the information centre.

We hope to permanently re-open large sections of the beach to the public in time for the school summer holidays in late July, subject to weather and at the time of going to press 90 per cent of the rock work is complete.

Other significant progress includes:

• The stepped revetement is 50 per cent complete
• 14 out of 27 timber groynes have been installed
• Work on the southern section of beach has been completed and it is now fully open to the public.
