DVD charting the £6m securing of Tywyn’s sea defences raises vital funds for air ambulance

Keen amateur photographers Graham and Nancy Clarke have helped to raise much-needed funds for the Wales Air Ambulance by producing a DVD chronicling a major scheme to shore up the sea defences at Tywyn in Gwynedd.

The couple have been supported in their venture by contractors civil engineering firm Jones Bros who spotted the couple taking photographs day and night at the site.

Sales of the DVD have so far raised more than £800 for the charity.

Dafydd Elis, Jones Bros project engineer, said: “We were delighted to support Graham and Nancy in this worthwhile project. The Wales Air Ambulance is a very deserving charity as it provides such a vital service.”

Graham Clarke, a retired bank manager who moved to Bryncrug, near Tywyn from Shropshire six years ago, said: “The scheme has been quite a spectacle and is something we will never see the like of again.

“We are keen photographers and have been down on the front most days and some nights taking pictures as it has been very dramatic, particularly when the boats have been coming in with the rocks.”

“Jones Bros suggested we create a charity DVD and our son John provided the technical expertise.”

The couple have produced two versions of the DVD and will create an updated third version as the scheme nears completion.

Jones Bros was appointed by Gwynedd Council for the construction of the £6m scheme and work started earlier this year to help protect the seaside town from flooding, hopefully ensuring its future prosperity.

The scheme is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government as part of the £65 million Flood and Coastal Risk Management project.
