The Role

As the Health, Safety and Environment Manager, you will be directly reporting to the Board of Directors. The successful candidate will be a key member of the senior leadership team driving HSE performance through the business.and responsible for the day to day management of the Health, Safety and Environment department

The role’s responsibilities will include:

  •  Leading and reinforcing a strong HS&E culture, including the ongoing behaviour safety programme supported by various initiatives.
  • Providing advice to delivery teams in terms of planning and managing HS&E considerations.
  • Improving quality and response levels of near misses, incidents and observations.
  • Ensuring sufficient HS&E inspections are completed on project sites.
  • Representing Jones Bros at relevant industry bodies and consultation groups.
  • Planning and developing the continuous improvement plan for HS&E, setting department and company-wide objectives.
  • Reviewing progress through site inspections, audits, senior manager tours and trend analysis.
  • Reporting on progress against objectives.
  • Identifying trends in HS&E performance to develop new working practices and procedures to mitigate reoccurrence.
  • Keeping up to date with legislative, regulatory and best practice changes and ensure this is translated into Jones Bros practice.
  • Assisting with incident management, leading where required on complex or more high risk incidents, both with initial response and ensuring that investigations are performed thoroughly and accurately.
  • Providing support during external audits of business management systems.
  • Promoting Jones Bros through relevant industry award submissions.
  • Targeting and achieving energy saving measures.
  •  Promoting good health practice.
  • Ensuring that procedures are in place to ensure HS&E compliance from Jones Bros supply chain.
  • Responsibility for ensuring appropriate health and safety and environment training is delivered to the wider team.
  • Ensuring current best practice and evidence is included in the tenders and bids in accordance with client requirements.
  • Liaising with regulators, clients and stakeholders.
  • Delivering presentations and training as required.

The role is for permanent employment.

Pre-requisite qualifications and capabilities

To be considered for this HSE Manager role, the following qualifications and experience are required;

  • Chartered membership of IOSH.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in managing HS&E in a civil engineering contractor or related organisation.
  • Appropriate environmental qualification (IEMA certificate, NEBOSH certificate etc.)
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • A high level of written and verbal communication skills to write and present reports, prepare business management documents, and present information and responses while participating in meetings with clients and other parties.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
